Dr. Mo - Biography

M.A. Bhatti is an art professor and an accomplished portrait painter. He earned an MFA from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and a PhD in Interdisciplinary Arts from Ohio University. For the last 30 years he has painted and exhibited around the world, resulting in 35 solo exhibitions and numerous juried shows. He is represented by a few selected art galleries worldwide; his artwork can be found in both public and private collections. Dr. Bhatti is a multi-dimensional painter; he is an amazing portrait painter and has painted portraits of many distinguished individuals around the world. He is an elite signature member of the Watercolor Art Society of Houston; he is a well know southwestern painter who has been represented by a few outstanding galleries and has established himself as a contemporary expressionist painter in the United States. The visual interest in his paintings is heightened by multiple layers of acrylic, oil, resins, spray paint, randomly torn magazine and book pages, design patterns, and calligraphic elements which all help him to create rich imagery. He utilizes intense vibrant colors applied in bold strokes which enable him to generate an exciting character to his canvases.

Dr. Bhatti currently lives in Houston, Texas and has spent the last few years concentrating on themes inspired by the American southwest. He has specifically focused on the cowboy and ranch lifestyle; he has become captivated with the cowboy heritage and has concentrated on capturing the beauty of southwest’s rocky landscapes. His compositions are vibrant in capturing the dynamic movement, excitement, and vitality of the characters and the rich cultural heritage of the Southwest. Every detail is painted with keen observation in a painterly style. These cowboy paintings are recognized by various auction houses and southwest galleries. M. A. Bhatti’s distinctive style, combination of subject matter, energetic compositions, mood, and intense color are instantly recognizable. Collectors throughout the United States and abroad value his work.

Currently, Dr. Bhatti is associated with the Watercolor Art Society of Houston, AO5 Gallery in Austin, Black Art in America, and Archway Gallery in Houston. He also teaches a variety of art classes. Through a combination of demonstration and hands-on instruction, he has earned large committed following of students.
